WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Republican Congressman from Bakersfield, Kevin McCarthy has been elected House Majority Leader.
He defeated Idaho's Raul Labrador in a closed-door vote.
Congressman McCarthy will take over for Virginia's Eric Cantor, who resigned the post after losing the GOP primary in Virginia.
Cantor's last day is July 31.
