A man is a dead after a crash left two cars almost unrecognizable in southwest Bakersfield.
The accident happened around noon near the intersection of Stockdale Highway and Gosford Road.
Police say the driver of a Honda Civic, 22-year-old Rodolfo Contreras, was headed southbound on Gosford when he sped up to make a red light.
Officers say when Contreras did that, he lost control of his car and crossed the center divider into northbound traffic.
The Honda Civic collided with a Ford Explorer.
Officers say the driver of the Explorer, 54-year-old David Aggio, was killed.
Contreras was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Police say drugs appear to be a factor in the crash.
