BAKERSFIELD,CA- After 10 years as the Kern High School District's Superintendent, Dr. Don Carter announced last month that he will be retiring. The district's board of trustees wants your suggestions on characteristics you would like to see in the successor.
In a routine board meeting in January, Dr. Carter announced his retirement from California's largest 9-12 high school district.
"He led the school district in through some tough times. The first part of it was a little more enjoyable when the school district was expanding. Under him we built four new high schools," said board member Mike Williams.
Now the board wants your input.
"Hiring the superintendent is probably the most important thing your board does and so we want to make sure that we've got the public's input and that we are on the same page as the public and our community so that the person we hire represent us," said Williams.
The board has set aside time to hear from the public on Monday's board meeting.
Williams says they have a pool of about 25 possible candidates.
"We have limited it to employees of the district. So you already have to be an assistant, superintendent of the school district which there's three or a principal of the school district."
The meeting is Monday evening at 7 p.m. at the school district office on 5801 Sundale Ave.
If you are unable to attend Monday's meeting, you can submit comments at http://superintendent.kernhigh.org or email them to superintendent@khsd.k12.ca.us
