Bakersfield, CA-- Early Saturday morning, runners set off from Bakersfield in a long journey to help raise money for the Ronald McDonald House, a charity dedicated to providing a home away from home for families of sick children.
David Thull is running to raise money, but he isn't doing your average 5K.
Thull is running an estimated 128 miles from the Ronald Mcdonald House in Bakersfield to the one in Madera.
"I thought they were crazy but it's a great idea and it really creates awareness for Ronald McDonald House Charities," said Scarlett Sabin, Bakersfield Director, Ronald McDonald House.
Thull is considered an ultra runner, someone who specializes in long distance runs. He says he got involved with the Ronald McDonald House through his fiance.
"My fiance used to volunteer a lot at Ronald McDonald House, so the night before my wedding, we did a 12 hour event back in Fresno," said Thull.
Thull has a group of volunteers running along with him in five mile increments.
"We are hoping for about 32 hours," Thull said.
"Last time we checked, we are at $5,000 that we have raised. All that money goes directly back to the Ronald McDonald House to help the families and fund the house."
