BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield City Council voted Wednesday night on an ordinance to ban medicinal marijuana shops within city limits.
Residents for and against pot shops spoke at the meeting. Those who oppose pot shops say it's a drug that has no place in our community.
But, pro-medical marijuana advocates want regulation, not prohibition.
The city of Bakersfield already has a resolution banning pot shops, but the ordinance would provide more legal power to close them down.
Wednesday, the council voted to approve the ordinance. However, there must be a second reading and vote for it to go into effect.
