Students at Arvin High School are celebrating, after they were recently invited to Washington, D.C. to compete in the "We the People" competition.

Twenty-six students from Arvin High, along with teachers and chaperones, plan to make the trip to D.C. in April.

But, first they have to come up with $50,000 to $70,000 to pay their way.

The school library is where you'll find Arvin High's "We the People" team, six days a week, studying.

They're hitting the books harder than ever after learning they earned a wild card spot in the national competition.

Usually, only the winner of each state competition gets to go, but because of a rule change, second place Arvin was invited to D.C. because it has a history of doing so well.

"When we found out we were going to Washington D.C., everybody was extremely happy, yelling and celebrating that we were going," said student Mayra Bautista.

"This is so much of a big deal for me because having been with these people, with my friends, with the coaches for so long, having studied so hard, really shows the value of hard work," said student Jose Zuniga.

Right now, Arvin's principal is trying to come up with ways to fundraise.

If you would like to help the students take their dream trip to D.C., call Arvin High School at 854-5561.
