OILDALE, CA - Do you have an old cell phone lying around? The Kern County Sheriff's Department is holding a Secure The Call 911 cell phone drive.
Secure The Call is a non-profit organization that prepares used cell phones to distribute free to citizens who need one for the purpose of calling 911. Secure The Call partners with police and Sheriff's departments, domestic violence organizations, and senior citizens groups across the country.
It collects the phones, removes all the information, resets them for 911-use only, and then distributes them.
