You still have time to take part in our "17 Days of Christmas" holiday toy drive.
We're collecting new, unwrapped toys for children living at the Bakersfield Homeless Center and kids who recently moved out, but whose families still struggle.
If you would like to help, but aren't sure what to get. Jerri Alvarado with the Bakersfield Homeless Center, has some suggestions.
"For the children, they always enjoy dolls and trucks and toys, just any kinds of toys. The games are always a big hit. And, keep in mind also we have junior high and high school kids here and that's an important group of children that we want to make sure that they have something that's age appropriate also. It always worries us at the beginning of the season, it's low, there's not a lot of toys. We did have some toys come in this weekend from the community so that was nice. A few have trickled in this morning, but of course the Channel 17 drive always is the big push for us."
The toy drive drive runs through Friday, December 21st. You can drop off new, unwrapped toys in our lobby at 2120 L Street, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Alvarado says they're collecting for babies, all the way up to seniors in high school.
