Thursday was sentencing day for a defendant convicted of being an accessory to the death of a man outside a Bakersfield restaurant last year.

Last month, Victor Palomares was convicted of attempted voluntary manslaughter and participating in a street gang.

Thursday, he was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Palomares and two others were accused of taking part in the shooting and stabbing of several men outside the Maria Bonita Restaurant off Highway 178 and Canteria Drive in March 2011.

"He stabbed one of the victims in the side and in the back. He wasn't involved in the shooting. The shooting came from the vehicle, and that's the other defendant," said Prosecutor David McKillop.

A second defendant, Oscar Martinez, was found guilty of first degree murder last month and will be sentenced later this month.

Charges were dropped against a third defendant, Jared Caywood, last year.
