BAKERSFIELD, CA -- All 9 of the city's spray parks are shutting down as of Tuesday night. Bakersfield City Attorney Ginny Gennaro says because the State Office of Administrative Law approved the drought emergency water conservation regulations and ordered them effective as of July 28, 2014.
Both the Prohibited Activities in Promotion of Water Conservation by the SWRCB and the City of Bakersfield’s Stage 3 Water Conservation Plan components require discontinuation of spray parks.
Although it was expected that such use would be discontinued effective August 1, 2014, it is now apparent that the law requires that all City of Bakersfield spray parks close Tuesday night until at least April 25, 2015.
The City regrets that such action is necessary and more so, regrets the minimal notice to the public. As previously indicated by Dianne Hoover, Recreation and Parks Director, free open swim will be available at Martin Luther King and Jefferson pools beginning Wednesday. Please call 661-326-3866 for details.
