BAKERSFIELD, CA -- Talks resumed Wednesday between Golden Empire Transit officials and striking drivers and mechanics.
Both sides met Wednesday morning.
But GET rejected the union's latest offer, submitting a counter-offer. This is the ninth day of the strike. The transit district's board of directors met in special session Tuesday afternoon, to consider an offer from the union.
While union officials wouldn't say what was in their lastest proposal, they say it would have been a step in the right direction for drivers. "It's something that we both want to work on and get everyone back to work and get Bakersfield rolling again," says Chester Suniga, Teamsters local 517.
Union officials will now consider the counter-offer. Fifty percent of the 250 drivers and mechanics would have to accept the offer to end the strike.
