BAKERSFIELD, CA - A strike by GET bus drivers and mechanics is affecting students at Bakersfield College.
School officials say the impact is big, and some students are having to drop their summer classes.
GET officials say 30 percent of its riders are students, and with the strike in day three, many students are having to find other means of transportation.
It's a harsh reality students are facing, finding a ride every day or dropping out of a class while they still can.
The college says it would like to help students out, but there's simply not enough recourses to do so, and it would also be a liability.
BC officials say missing a couple days of summer school would most likely cause a student to fall behind.
"For a student who relies on the GET bus for their primary transportation, they're missing classes, and to miss one or two classes in the summer means you might have to drop because you are so far behind," said BC Spokesperson Amber Chiang.
GET bus officials say providing transportation to everyone during the strike would be ideal, but they say it's impossible and they understand the hardships students and the community are facing.
"I think we all feel very badly for our customers. We just are hoping that we can at least get some resolution so that our employees come back to work as we continue this," said Gina Hayden, Golden Empire Transit spokesperson.
BC officials say next week the college will know how many students have dropped out.
