BAKERSFIELD,CA- Remnants of fireworks are left in neighborhoods across Bakersfield. The fireworks were some of the same type of fireworks that kept many Kern County residents up throughout the night.
"I heard a lot last night of illegals going off," said Oildale resident Dan Topial.
"I think it was well past midnight and they were continuing on.They kind of kept my wife and my mother-in-law up," said Joe Hemminger.
Some Oildale residents say the noise from fireworks is too much to handle. One resident ranked this year as one of the loudest.
"It started early and got louder and louder so we just stayed in," said Melissa Roberts.
According the the Kern County Fire Department, the fireworks task force hotline received 754 calls; 371 from county fire and 383 from city fire. Within the week, local fire officials confiscated more than 2,300 pounds of illegal fireworks.
"It seems like every 4th of July, we have someone whose lost their property. It was not expected and it's due to those who either misuse the fireworks or illegal fireworks," said Bakersfield Fire Department Capt. Quincy Sloan.
