The Shirley Fire grew to 2,200 acres overnight near Wofford Heights, firefighters reported Monday morning. While containment held steady at 10 percent, firefighters were expecting that figure to grow later in the day.
Two structures were destroyed and another was heavily damaged over the weekend. But firefighters made "tremendous progress overnight," and said they were "extremely confident" they wouldn't lose any more structures.
Mandatory evacuations were in place for Allta Sierra, Wagy Flats, Shirley Meadows, and Hungry Gulch.
Access to significant flames was expected to be highly diminished Monday, but firefighters said they were hoping to "turn a corner" Monday and be left to mop up after.
