Bakersfield, Ca -- The district attorney's office has filed a civil complaint with a judgment against Kern County Assessor-Recorder Jim Fitch for his endorsement on county stationary of Jon Lifquist, who's running to replace Fitch.
Fitch has agreed to pay 400 dollars in restitution and penalties to the county and 435 dollars in Kern County Superior Court fees. Fitch told 17 News last month: "I'm not a professional politician, I goofed, I'm not someone who's aware of the codes as I should be."
Jon Lifquist is currently chief appraiser, and has worked for the Assessor-Recorder's office for 25 years.
Lifquist is running against Bakersfield city councilman Russell Johnson for Assessor-Recorder in November, because neither candidate got a majority of the votes in the June 3 primary election.
