BAKERSFIELD, CA -- We're learning more about the mother arrested for the death of her 4-year-old son back in 2010.Court documents show, Alexis Dixon, has a long list of child abuse and neglect toward the boy including burning the child with cigarettes and using meth in front of him.
Kern County Sheriff's deputies were called to Alexis and Mark Dixon trailer at Stockdale Highway and Enos Lane back in April 2010. This was for reports of a child with major head injuries.
The child's mother, Alexis Dixon, said her son fell from a chair or table while she was taking a nap in the next room. Dixon said Mark Dixon, the father, was next door fixing a drain.
But piles of interviews and complaints over the last four years lead detectives to believe it was so much more than a fall. Alexis Dixon was arrested last month for the murder of her son.
According court documents released Tuesday, Mark and Alexis Dixon have a list of Child Protection Services violations dating back to before the boy was born. Mark Dixon was cited for running a meth lab in front of kids in 1999. Alexis Dixon was cited for using meth while pregnant in 2002.
After the boy was born in 2006, the complaints continue. The document shows a complaint of cigarettes burns on the 3-month-old child in 2006 and a complaint Alexis Dixon left a child alone on the couch while she and three others used meth in the back room.
So what happened in April 2010? Dixon said she was "in bed sleeping when she heard a loud noise. The document said she then she found her son face down on the floor of the trailer so she lifted her son off the floor. In the document Dixon tells a detective her son was "vomiting from his nose" so "she put him in the bath".
Dixon said to the detective she then she "carried she him to the front door, "walked down the steps" then "slipped onto her butt." Dixon then tells detectives she "sat him against a wall" to go get help. The document shows she said she then "looked back and saw her son slump over and strike his head against a pole."
Sheriff's deputies said in the document this story is not consistent with the boy's injuries.
The document also has expert opinion of a children's hospital doctor who said dying from a fall like that is unlikely and he believes this case is "highly suspicious."
The report shows Dixon has two kids, two with Mark Dixon. The document shows she adopted out her first child and that was pregnant at the time of her son's death, wanting to adopt out that unborn baby as well saying "because I don't need no more kids." It's unclear whether that child was adopted.
Dixon is being held on a $2 million bond charged with first-degree murder.
She's scheduled to appear in court again, April 15.
