BAKERSFIELD, CA - Bakersfield gets closer to start buying homes in the path of the Centennial Corridor.
Property manager Don Anderson says the city is appraising more than 65 homes in the area. They belong to homeowners who are willing to sell. In March, city officials said 422 properties would interfere with the route.
The city council approved $165 million to purchase the homes -- but the project still has not been approved.
A Caltrans spokesperson says the environmental impact report won't be completed until the end of April. A public hearing will follow the last week of May.
Anderson says the city will be making offers on some homes in the near future. He says transactions should be completed within two to three months.
