WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The widow of a local veteran is now holding her late husband's Distinguished Service Cross for his bravery. "This is to certify the United States government and the President of the United States, United States Army."

On Tuesday, Congressman Kevin McCarthy presented the Distinguished Service Cross posthumously to Sergeant First Class Robert Keiser.  He lived in Randsburg until he passed away in 2009. His widow, Pam Keiser, received the award Tuesday morning in his honor in Washington, D.C.

Keiser was a sergeant in the Korean War.  On November 30, 1950, Pam says her husband and his convoy approached a roadblock in South Korea made up of at least 20 disabled vehicles and came under heavy enemy fire.  Keiser reportedly and almost single-handedly moved all of those vehicles off the road.

His actions were credited with saving thousands of American lives.  Pam says her husband was nominated for the Distinguished Service Cross in 2009, but it was lost in bureaucratic red tape, until Congressman Kevin McCarthy intervened.
