BAKERSFIELD, CA -- All three Kern County Animal Services Shelters are holding Valentine's Day adoption events this weekend and.  They will be held on Friday, February 14th and Saturday, February 15th between 10 am and 4 pm in Bakersfield, Mojave and Lake Isabella.

“We have some wonderful pets waiting for forever homes and we encourage anyone that has been thinking about adopting a pet to take advantage of our ‘Will You Be Mine?’ adoption promotion,” stated Nick Cullen, Shelter Supervisor for Kern County Animal Services.

During this weekend event, all pet adoption fees for dogs and cats have been reduced. Dog adoption fees which are normally $75 and $85 have been reduced to just $20. Cat adoption fees which are normally $40 and $50 have been reduced to just $10.

All fees include spay/neuter surgery, first set of vaccinations, microchip, Rabies vaccination and dog license for qualifying dogs and a one year dog license for residents living in unincorporated areas of the county.

The weekend of love event hopes to encourage the adoption of the many wonderful dogs and cats waiting for a second chance at a new home. “These animals would love to be your valentine and they promise to love you forever,” Cullen added. “Valentine’s Day is typically a day to share your love with another and what better way to do that than by rescuing a shelter pet in need.”

For information on adopting a pet, please email adopt@co.kern.ca.us or call 661-321-3000 Monday-Friday between 8 am and 5 pm.
