BAKERSFIELD, CA-A driver hit and killed a child in Central Bakersfield. It's the first vehicle-related pedestrian fatality this year.
It happened just after 5 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of 30th and Q Streets.
Bakersfield police said a 28-year-old woman was driving a Ford Expedition southbound on Q Street, then turned west onto 30th.
Witnesses told police the boy, Gregorio Edward Leyva, 4, ran out into traffic and was hit by the SUV.
Leyva was taken to Memorial Hospital but later died.
Investigators said it doesn't appear the driver was at fault. Officers also said drugs, alcohol and speed don't appear to be a factor.
