Correction on implosion report

BAKERSFIELD, CA -- We also have a correction in our report from last Tuesday on the PG&E implosion investigation. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says it is not conducting an independent investigation into the blast that sent shrapnel into a crowd of spectators last August after the detonation.

An ATF explosives enforcement officer responded to the scene for support, but the bureau never opened its own investigation.

We apologize for the error. Cal-OSHA finished its report last Monday and concluded that two subcontractors, Alpha Explosives and Demtech, were at fault for the flying debris from the blast. One spectator, Jerry Wood, nearly lost his leg when he was hit by shrapnel that flew across Coffee Road into the Lowe's parking lot. PG&E says it is still waiting for approval from the California Public Utilities Commission to clean up the site.
