ARVIN, CA-Arvin mayor, Jose Flores, said the water was tested Sunday night and results should be released Monday morning after a 40 year-old tree fell and uprooted an underground water main during last Thursday's wind storm which caused the water to be undrinkable.

The Arvin Union School District will open all of its schools on Monday and give each student two bottles of water and hand sanitizer.

This weekend, lines of cars stretched around the block as Arvin residentswaited in line for free bottled water.

It was even longer lines Sunday, but workers for the the water district say they were better prepared to handle the demand.

"Right now we are probable going to go through the 50 pallets and another delivery for another 10 pallets," said Jude Ureta, President of the Arvin Water Board.

Officials estimate they would hand out 3,000 cases on Sunday compared to the 504 cases Saturday .

Mayor Flores has been critical of the Water District. On Saturday he said, "I'm frustrated with the water district because they should be ready because it is not the first time the water line ruptured."

Sunday he thought differently.

"I commend the water district,” Flores said “It is true that we were able to work together."

Officials are hopeful the water will be ready to drink by Wednesday.

However, until an official notice is released, the Kern County Health Department recommends boiling the water for at least one minute or use bottled water.
