A shooting in south Bakersfield Halloween night took the life of a man, family members say, was celebrating his 50th birthday.
The shooting happened around 7:30 in the 1500 block of Pacheco Road. Police say the victim, Terry Ellis, was with a group of people in the alley near an apartment complex when two men walked up and began shooting.
"I heard one shot go off. I jumped, grabbed my son and was running into the living room when I heard four more shots go off. By the time I made it to the front door my husband and his friend was running in, and he was panicking for a while. And, seconds later he thought 'my uncle's still outside,' and when we went outside, his uncle was laying down on the ground," said relative Jalisa Johnson.
Ellis was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
No arrests have been made.
