BAKERSFIELD, CA -- A Kern County sheriff's detention deputy is under arrest. According to the sheriff's department 50-year-old Leroy Martin Romero was bringing contraband into Lerdo Jail for criminal street gang members.
The sheriff's department says Romero was detained when he arrived for work Thursday morning at the Lerdo Detention Facility.
Investigators say when they searched him, they found two packages of contraband tobacco. After authorities searched his home Thursday in northeast Bakersfield and found two packages of suspected methamphetamine.
Romero was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, conspiracy, possession of stolen property, and participation in a criminal street gang.
His bail has been set at $90,000.
