BAKERSFIELD, CA - It was a night of food and fun, with a specific goal in sight, providing eye care for those in need in Kern County. Appetite for Sight is a fundraiser for the Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired and Advanced Center for Eyecare in Bakersfield.

The two centers recently merged to become a non-profit comprehensive vision institution, providing free services to those in need. Together, the organizations provide eye exams and surgeries, along with teaching folks with severe vision problems to live independently.

CBVI instructor Dane Greer said, "Without our center a lot of people would be, for lack of a better word, left in the dark. Basically, without this training they would lose their independence and would end up in board and care homes, things like that, and we don't want that."

17's Kiyoshi Tomono and Rachelle Murcia emceed the event at the Stockdale County Club.
