City Council decides to move forward with the Centennial Corridor Freeway

VAKERSFIELD, CA- The Bakersfield City Council decided to move forward with the controversial Centennial Corridor freeway Wednesday night.

That's despite the threat of a lawsuit from people living in one Southwest Bakersfield neighborhood where houses could be bulldozed to make way for the project.

The proposed Centennial Corridor Project would extend Highway 58 west of the 99 and would eventually link to Interstate 5.

Several Westpark residents attended Wednesday's meeting, threatening to take the city to court.

Still, council members voted 6 to 1 to approve a validation action, the first step to borrowing 270 million dollars. The city's portion of the bill that will be matched by the federal government.
