BAKERSFIELD, CA –Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D- Bakersfield) says The City of Wasco was awarded $973,245 by the California Department of Housing and Community Development. Nearly $3 million in total was awarded to Assembly District 32 communities in this latest round of awards.

“I am pleased that the State has awarded community development dollars for the City of Wasco,” said Assemblymember Salas. “This funding will help first-time home buyers and improve commercial space in the city,” concluded Salas.

More than half a million dollars of Community Development Block Grant was given as part of an existing program run by the City of Wasco to help first time low-income homebuyers with down payment assistance, and more than a quarter of a million dollars was given that the city will be able to give to business owners to improve the exteriors of their buildings.

The CDBG program helps communities with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. More than $50 million has been awarded throughout the state to help expand housing, community and economic development opportunities for all Californians.
