BAKERSFIELD, CA -- Highway 178 through the canyon is back open after being closed for several days due to rock slides.
Cal Trans reopened one lane about 10:30 Friday morning. The canyon has been closed since Monday when a summer storm brought thunder, lightning and flash floods to the area, causing at least three rockslides through the mouth of the canyon.
Cal Trans and the California Highway Patrol say drivers should expect delays. With only one lane back open Cal Trans crews are doing 1-way traffic control utilizing flaggers and pilot vehicles in order to escort drivers safely through.
