Kern County Sheriff's bomb squad was called to two separate incidents Monday.
Narcotics investigators were serving a search warrant in the 2000 block of Padre Street when they discovered a suspicious device in a bag inside the garage of a home.
The bomb squad came in, determined it was an improvised explosive device, and detonated it.
Deputies did not provide information about how the bomb was made.
Eric Oliva, 22, was arrested for narcotics and weapons violations and possession of a destructive device. Alexander Devora, 44, was also arrested for possession of ammunition.
Meantime, the bomb squad made quick work of what they called suspicious looking containers earlier that evening.
Salvador Luque owns the home in the 900 block of Water Street in East Bakersfield. He says he served his tenants with their final eviction notice Monday and while cleaning up the house, he found four baby food jars containing a yellow liquid that smelled like gas.
The bomb squad took the glass jars to a nearby field and neutralized the liquid. Officials are not sure what was in the jars.
Several nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution. There were no injuries reported.
