TEJON RANCH, CA - New retail outlets are coming to Tejon Ranch and work is already underway. The company recently broke ground on the 45 acre project off Interstate 5.
Tejon Ranch corporate communications and marketing vice president Barry Zoeller says work on the structure will begin this summer, lasting until the beginning of next year. He says they're on schedule for the May 2014 opening.
Zoeller said, "Everything is on track, everything is moving very smoothly. There hasn't been anything on the site that we didn't expect, so we are certainly on target."
Zoeller says the goal is to have the outlets open by next Memorial Day weekend. It will be 330,000 square feet of 70 to 75 high-end stores but Zoeller says they aren't yet giving details on the specific stores.
"We can't reveal any of the specific names and won't do so until we're a little closer to opening but I can say that it will be populated with the types of stores and brands that you would expect to see in an upscale outlet center in California," said Zoeller.
Although construction on the outlets is just beginning, Zoeller says most of the retail spaces are already filled.
"We are oversubscribed. We have more stores wanting to be here than we have space available. So now, for these last few spots, it becomes a jigsaw puzzle and a juggling act."
Zoeller says they are working to offer a variety of stores, for the millions of visitors anticipated each year.
"We already know that the commerce center itself attracts 14 million visitors a year, and we expect a good percentage of those and maybe even more will make The Outlets at Tejon Ranch part of the stop," said Zoeller.
He says the outlets will have a huge impact on the economy of surrounding areas.
